In order to work on advanced hulls, our naval architects and marine engineers have to think outside the box (or inside the box depending on your point of view). It has less to do with looks than it does with just how much faster you can make something travel with a different shape to it. Which hydrodynamic principles can be used to generate lift or reduce drag, what materials facilitate lubrication or generate a barrier of air, and what kinds of equipment allow a hull to run up on a beach or turn on a dime are just of few of the questions we pursue as we design hulls for the next century.
