Our naval architects and marine engineers are intimately familiar with the fine points and special design requirements that come into play when altering or modernizing scientific research vessels. Extensive ship checks, detailed ship check reports, and development of contract plans and specifications are all standard activities. We have conducted U.S. Coast Guard-witnessed inclining experiments and developed Trim and Stability Booklets for many vessels in the NOAA fleet. In conjunction with this, Art Anderson Associates developed a trim and stability computer program for faster and more convenient on-board use to determine vessel stability characteristics. Understanding the use and capacity of specialized equipment, wet spaces, and labs aids us in delivering the best designs for research vessel optimization.
