Route Analysis: An analysis of where and why people travel and the identification of issues that are critical to the success of the system. For example, the issues on a commuter service - such as speed, schedule, and convenience - can be quite different from those on a tourist route or those in support of an island economy.
Environmental Considerations: Some of the important considerations in route analysis and vessel selection are the emerging and ever-stronger emphasis on environmental considerations. Wake wash issues such as noise, atmospheric pollution, and wetland protection can prove critical to the success or failure of a new system.
Vessel Selection: Once the route analysis has identified the optimum speed, vessel hull form, vessel capacity, seakeeping requirements, propulsion requirements, environmental restrictions and goals, etc., an existing vessel is selected or, if a satisfactory vessel does not exist a conceptual vessel is defined, to aid in analyzing real costs and operational conditions.
Specification Preparation: When requested, assistance is provided to the client in vessel procurement. The initial step in this process is the preparation of a performance specification that outlines the vessel requirements.
Shoreside Facilities: Where pier and terminal facilities exist, any modifications required to accommodate the changes in service will be defined. Where facilities do not exist, these will be defined at the concept stage; normally in enough detail so that the definition can be used for contracting purposes.
Financial Analysis: At each stage of the system development, costs are developed to assist the client in his own evaluation of the affordability and profitability of the operation. The capital cost of vessels and facilities, the operating costs including crew, fuel, administration, etc., are all provided.
Owner's Rep Services: When a ferry concept or vessel design has been selected, Art Anderson Associates can assist the owner with the preparation of procurement documents and evaluation criteria, selection of the best design, contract negotiation, drawing review, regulatory approval, and all other operations required to get the new vessel in service.
