Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Our marine electrical engineers are capable of addressing the range of electrical systems found on board modern vessels.  Our team is experienced performing analysis, planning and design services for systems that include:

  • Electrical Power
  • Interior and Exterior Lighting
  • Fire Detection and Supression Systems
  • Electrical Controls
  • Remote Monitoring and Sensors
  • IT/Data Infrastructure
  • Control Systems
  • Audio/Video Communications

Mechanical Engineering

Marine vessels are highly-complex systems with components that must be capable of functioning in harsh and demanding conditions.  Art Anderson Associates has a wealth of experience providing engineering and design services for these systems, including:

  • Propulsion and Steering Systems
  • Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems
  • Seawater and Freshwater Piping and Cooling Systems
  • Sewage, Bilge and Graywater Systems
  • Ballast and Fuel Oil Systems
  • Potable Water Systems
  • Pilothouse and Bridge Equipment
  • Deck Machinery, such as Cranes and Winches
  • Over-the-Side Handling Gear, such as Booms, Davits and Frames
  • Hydroacoustic and Other Data-Gathering Equipment
  • Trawl Equipment
  • Mission-Specific Equipment and Systems

Powering and Resistance Analysis

Art Anderson Associates has completed a number of naval architecture projects that have involved hydrodynamic analysis of hull resistance and power requirements. Often, these calculations are performed as a part of a repowering or renovation project, but they've also been components of some of our advanced research projects with the United States Navy. Our naval architects use software tools such as NavCAD to analyze the resistance of both displacement and planing vessels and use our professional knowledge and judgement to select appropriate engines and drivetrains. We also have experience in more rigorous forms of resistance calculations that include model development and tank testing.

Marine Structures

Art Anderson Associates understands the unique challenges that face marine structures. Our naval architects have performed analyses and developed designs not only for vessels, but other non-powered floating facilities as well. Our analyses include calculating local and global structural strength, the behavior of structures under vibration, and the response of structures to the ever-changing environmental conditions outside the hull. Our analyses have included the use of finite element analysis techniques and software tools such as Algor, where we're able to apply multiple loads to complex structures and efficiently analyze the results.
